New Producers Group
A strong collaborative network of over 30 countries built on trust and peer-to-peer exchanges
The main aim is to achieve inclusive and lasting development outcomes in emerging producer countries. We help emerging oil and gas producers build capacity and set appropriate rules and institutions to effectively manage their finite resources. In light of the energy transition, they have one chance to do it right. As energy systems decarbonise, it is also essential for developing countries to map out their transition plan and limit their dependence on the sector.
We hold an annual discussion group, which brings together 20-23 emerging producers with technical advisory groups. The project offers Guidelines for Good Governance in Emerging Oil and Gas Producing Countries, which draw from these discussions. The project is co-organized by Chatham House, Natural Resource Governance Institute, and the Commonwealth Secretariat. Our interactive presentation takes you through the Guidelines. It is available in English, French, Swahili and Portuguese.
The New Producers Group runs a helpdesk, provides detailed policy toolkits, supports country specific plans that clarify strategic priorities, and offers capacity-building programmes and implementation support in-country over time.
